  • Community First: By specializing in ecotourism, we ensure that your visit directly benefits the local community, promoting deep respect for our cultural heritage.

Expert Guidance & Community

We rely on the wisdom of local guides—the true eyes and ears of the region—to provide a deep understanding of every landscape we encounter.

Day 1: Arrival & Rural Immersion

Day 1: Arrival & Rural Immersion image

The Gateway to Nature and Basque Tradition

114:30 — Pick-up in Bilbao

We'll collect you in Bilbao and head into the mountains — but there's a stop worth making along the way.

On the road to the farmhouse, we pass through Orduña, a town that has sat at a crossroads of routes and regions for centuries without ever quite hurrying up. Old stone, a square that hasn't changed much, a quiet that has some history behind it — the kind of place that tells you the trip has properly begun.

After checking in at the farmhouse, the afternoon is yours to shape. You're welcome to settle in and explore the property, or join us for a walk into the Delika Canyon — one to two hours, easy going, through landscape that earns its reputation.

As evening draws in, we head to the village of Untza, where we'll visit a Txoko: a traditional Basque gastronomic society, part kitchen, part club, and very much part of how life works in these villages. There's also a game of local bowling — which tends to be more entertaining than people expect.

The day ends with a welcome dinner back at the farmhouse, around the table with Ana, Iñaki, and whatever the kitchen has been working on. A good way to begin.

Meals: Welcome Dinner at the farmhouse

Day 2: The West Coast — Maritime Heritage & Sacred History

Day 2: The West Coast — Maritime Heritage & Sacred History image

Journeying along the West Coast: Discovering the Beauty of Gernika and Bermeo Villages, and the Wonders of Urdaibai Natural Reserve

After breakfast and a ride to the coast , you will start your day in Gernika, with its rich Basque history, invites you to check out cool spots like the historic tree and the oldest parliament in Europe.

In Bermeo, one of the most storied fishing ports on the Basque coast, we'll take a little time to simply be in the village — its harbour, its history, its people.

The highlight is meeting the Neskatillas: local women who have spent their lives mending nets and keeping the old fishing traditions alive. They are among the last who still do, and the time with them feels less like a guided visit and more like sitting down with living memory.

Lunch follows at a traditional seafood restaurant — whatever came in that morning, simply cooked (not included in the price) — before we head out onto the water.

We'll spend around 90 minutes cruising through the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, taking in its shifting sandbars and coastal landscape from the water — a perspective you simply can't get on foot.

A practical note: departure times on the boat are set by the tides, so we may adjust the order of the day's experiences to make sure we catch the best window. We'll always let you know the evening before.

Next, we'll visit San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a striking island crowned by a small hermitage. While there won't be time to hike up to it, the coastal viewpoints offer truly stunning views of this iconic landscape.

To close the day, we'll cook dinner together at Untza Txoko, learning the art of the traditional Basque txoko — a cherished culinary tradition — and sharing it as a group.

Day 3: Rioja Alavesa — Medieval Villages & Time-Honored Vineyards

Day 3: Rioja Alavesa — Medieval Villages & Time-Honored Vineyards image

History and Wine: A Tour of Rioja Alavesa's Vineyards, Wineries, and Medieval Villages.

For the lover of fine wine and deep history, this day is an essential experience. We lead you into the heart of Rioja Alavesa, where we visit exceptional family estates that still preserve ancient customs.

A highlight of the morning is exploring a remarkable medieval winery carved directly into the rock, where tradition is kept alive in every barrel.

Between tastings, we wander through some of Spain’s most enchanting medieval villages, including the storied streets of Laguardia and Labastida.

For lunch, savor a curated local menu at a traditional restaurant, celebrating the bold flavors of the region.

A second visit to another winery plus wine tasting is include in the visit .

Our journey through time continues as we discover intriguing Neolithic dolmens set dramatically amidst the vines, adding a profound historical dimension to the landscape.

We return to the tranquility of Ulle Gorri to end the day with a light dinner on our beautiful glass porch—the perfect, peaceful conclusion after a day of rich exploration.

Day 4: Ecotourism and gastronomy image

Exploring Nature and Traditions in Gorbeialdea.

We begin the day with a short walk through Urkiola Natural Park, up to one of the finest viewpoints in the area. Along the way you'll see the "trasmocho" beech forests — trees pollarded by hand for centuries, now grown into candelabra shapes with wide, sprawling branches.

We'll also visit the sanctuary at Urkiola , San Antonio de Urkiola, one of the most venerated places in the Basque Country.

Here, in the foothills of Gorbeia, shepherding is still a living tradition. It's also the land many Basque families left behind when they emigrated to keep herding sheep, mostly in Idaho and Nevada — a story you'll hear told from this side of the ocean. You will discover the tradition with a private guided visit to the shepherd´s facilities and cheese tasting

Next, a guided visit to a Basque cider house, a traditional gem set in one of the most beautiful corners of the Basque Country, followed by the classic cider house meal: cider straight from the barrel, and the food that goes with it.

After lunch, a gentle walk in Otxandio. We'll wander the village, hear its history, and take in the quiet atmosphere of a traditional basque village.

Meals included: Breakfast , ciderhouse lunch , light dinner

Travel program. This is an experience-based trip built on an off-the-beaten-path philosophy — nature, food and culture in the Land of the Basques — and not a fixed sightseeing package. The program is designed with care, and it also breathes.

  • Our local collaborators. Many of the people who welcome you are not tourism professionals. They are farmers, food producers, artisans, fishermen and neighbors who open their work and their world to a small group because they enjoy sharing it. Their own work comes first, and we want it that way: it is what keeps these encounters real and keeps the benefit of the trip within the community. Because our programs are published many months in advance, a collaborator may not be available on the day — a harvest, a season, the weather, a family matter. If that happens, we will re schedule the itinerary to fit the experience or include a similar experience of equivalent interest and quality instead, at no extra cost to you, and we tell you as soon as we know.

  • Weather and activities. Where weather, safety, access restrictions, unexpected events or the condition of the group make a planned activity unadvisable, the guide may replace it with an alternative experience of equivalent interest and quality, at no extra cost. The guide’s judgment on safety is final.

  • Wildlife. Birds and other wild animals are free-living: we choose the sites, seasons, times and guides that give you the best realistic chance of seeing them, but no sighting of any particular species can be promised.

  • Very important: the activities will depend on the climatological conditions, in case the weather is not suitable to do the activity, an alternative experience will be scheduled. Remember that this is not a touristic package, but experience based trip to enjoy and discover the nature, gastronomy and culture of The land of the Basques.

Health and Physical Status Requirements: Our trips take place outdoors, on rural and sometimes uneven terrain. Hikes are easy, with little elevation gain, and last between about 1 and 3 hours; taking part is optional, and you can wait for the group at an agreed point. A reasonable level of fitness — being comfortable walking for about 3 hours  — makes the experience much better.

Our trips are not suitable for persons with reduced mobility. If you have reduced mobility, a disability or any specific need, tell us before booking: we will give you precise information on whether and how the trip can suit you, and we will adapt it where we can.

Insurances. Total comprehensive travel insurance , liability insurance, car insurance and hiking activity insurances included.

Safety. Let us know if participants have any allergies, food intolerances or food restrictions.
